FAQ

What does Ayurvedic Treatment include?

At Elemental Ayurveda we use diet, lifestyle, herbs, yoga and pranayama to treat clients. Depending on the client concerns, additional treatments may be recommended including marma therapy, yoga and pranayama--as well as head, heart, back, shoulder or knee treatments with medicated oil.

When to see an Ayurvedic Practitioner?

If you are healthy, visiting a practitioner could help determine your constitution/prakriti and thereby understand what kinds of foods and lifestyle choices will help to keep you fit as you age and as the seasons change. These are recommendations that are tailored to you, based on your specific genetic constitution /prakriti and your lifestyle rather than a cookie cutter solution. If you are dealing with short term discomfort with an issue like digestion, menstrual cramps, anxiety, cracking and popping joints--or just flu and congestion--Ayurveda is great to help before things get further aggravated and become chronic conditions. If you have chronic health issues that have persisted for a longer period and are affecting your quality of life or if you are just feeling off balance or need support through a life transition, Ayurveda can help substantially. Over the last three years I have worked with clients who have had digestive issues, muscular skeletal issues, women’s health/ menopause issues, anxiety, stress, depression, thyroid issues, hair loss, insomnia, congestion, constipation, IBS, Crohn’s, gastritis, palpitations, UTI’s, diabetes, cholesterol, psoriasis, osteoarthritis, RA, skin issues, migraines, acid reflux and more. Finally, if you have conditions for which you are taking allopathic treatment such as chemotherapy/radiation you can still see an Ayurvedic practitioner for herbs, diet and lifestyle recommendations to ease symptoms and side effects you may be experiencing.

When will I see improvements in my health?

You will see small changes very soon. Longer term success requires time and commitment. In Ayurveda the client and practitioner work as partners. I am wholly dedicated to your wellbeing and will provide you with a detailed treatment plan that is manageable and sustainable. My aim is to meet you where you are and to walk the path together. Treatment in Ayurveda is a dialogue between the patient and practitioner as we work together to bring you back to your balanced state. I will always be available to answer any questions and concerns you may have.

Differences between Ayurveda and Western Medicines?

Western Medicine is invaluable. It provides blood tests, x-rays, CT scans, MRI’s and lifesaving therapies. However there are three big differences between Ayurveda and Allopathy. Firstly, while western medicine tends to treat the symptoms of a problem, Ayurveda treats both the symptoms in the short term and investigates further to treat the root causes of a problem so that the symptoms do not recur. Secondly, while specialists in western medicine focus on each biological system as a separate entity--reproductive, cardiac, lymphatic--Ayurveda looks at the whole person when recommending treatment, irrespective of where the issue lies. Finally, in Ayurveda we create a highly personalised treatment plan for each patient that includes herbs, diet and lifestyle recommendations. There is no one size fits all approach to treatment.
